Education: The applicant should have completed high school, completed college or technical training.

Experience: at least five years’ experience.

Credentials required: The applicant should have Sheet Metal Worker Trade Certification, Sheet Metal Worker Red Seal Certificate, Driver’s License.

Areas of Specialization: Heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, Humidifier systems, Custom sheet metal items

Other Material Joining Techniques / Equipment: Lock formers, seamers, groovers, Rivets, screws, bolts, Pop rivets

Specific Skills: Determine layout of systems, Measure and mark sheet metal according to template, Operate metalworking machines to cut, punch, drill, shape or straighten sheet metal, Grind and buff seams, joints and rough surfaces, Inspect products to ensure quality and conformity to specification, Cut materials using power tools or by hand, Assemble, erect and install hoisting and rigging equipment

Additional Skills: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications, Prepare tenders and quotations, Estimate labour and material costs, Schedule work, Calculate heating and cooling loads, design duct systems and select equipment for residential and small commercial construction, Instruct apprentices, Supervise other workers

Security and Safety: Criminal record check, Driver’s validity license check

Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots
