Education: The applicant should have completed high school.

Experience: at least a full year’s experience.

Credentials required: The applicant should have Driver’s Licence (Class 1 or A), Air Brake (Z) Endorsement, Commercial Vehicle Operator’s Registration (CVOR) Certificate.

Type of Travel: Provincial/territorial, National

Documentation Knowledge: Driver logbook, Bill of lading, Inspection report (pre-trip, en-route, post-trip), Maintenance and repair reports, Trip reports, Accident or incident reports, Dangerous goods occurrence reports

Communication Equipment Experience: Citizens band (CB) radio, Satellite tracking (GPS) equipment

Weight Handling: Up to 23 kg (50 lbs)

Specific Skills: Plan travel schedules and routes, Use atlases and other trip planning aids, Receive and relay information to central dispatcher, Transport hazardous products or dangerous goods, Oversee condition of vehicle and inspect tires, lights, brakes, cold storage and other equipment, Monitor vehicle performance and mechanical fitness

Additional Skills: Professionalism in customer service

Security and Safety: Driving record check (abstract), Medical exam, Drug test

Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots

Transportation/Travel Information: Valid driver’s licence
